Diagnosing faults accurately is a job for an engineer. Most often the fault is in the wiring, not the equipment. Cables that run from a gate post to inside the property pass through harsh environments, and will deteriorate in time.

It will help if the engineer knows what component parts have been fitted. Module part numbers and handset codes can be found on the back of each device. 

Knowing the number of wires used inside the house phone is useful too. If in doubt, photo the inside of the handset or monitor.
